Injured Revs Beat Bruce's Bulls
Boston Globe, September 21st, 2006 4PM

Bruce Arena and the New York Red Bulls did their playoff hopes no favors last night as they lost out to the New England Revolution 2-0 at Giants Stadium last night. The Revolution will now clinch a playoff berth with a win over Kansas City and a New York loss to D.C. United on Saturday. Taylor Twellman, who some critics think should have gone to the World Cup with the national team this summer, scored the first goal, his 10th of the season, while Andy Dorman added the second from a Clint Dempsey free kick just after the break. Joey Franchino, who deputized for the injured defensive midfielder Shalrie Joseph last night, also had a good game. "Shalrie and Pat were in the back of our minds," Franchino said of the injured Joseph and Pat Noonan. "But this shows the resiliency of this team. We have something special here. We have been unlucky all year but we got fortunate to get the early goal this time." Joseph, the Revolution's 2005 most valuable player, will likely miss the rest of the regular season, but should return for the playoffs. Read the original story...
