The FIGC, Italy's soccer federation, is set to launch an investigation after former referee Massimo De Santis accused Inter Milan of tailing him after games and tapping his phone in 2002. De Santis was recently handed a four-year ban due to his involvement in the Calciopoli scandal, which was blown wide open once again by the revelation of hundreds of cases of phone interceptions by Telecom Italia. One report suggested that Inter had De Santis followed by a private investigator after the club was informed of suspicious relations between former Juventus GM Luciano Moggi, the ringleader of the Calciopoli scandal, and De Santis. "I am paying for something that I didn't do, I have always stated my innocence and to know today what was happening a few years ago really makes me sick," said De Santis. Inter owner Massimo Moratti reacted immediately to De Santis' allegations, by saying the club had no involvement in this issue. If the accusations prove to be true, Inter could face fines, but no point deduction, according to a Football Italia report. "He's disgusted? Myself and many others have been disgusted for months and we shall be so for the rest of our lives," Inter coach Roberto Mancini said of De Santis' involvement in the Calciopoli scandal.
