Chivas USA: From Goat to Great
Los Angeles Times, September 27th, 2006 4:45PM

Chivas USA was certainly the goat in MLS last year, after finishing dead last in its debut season. This year, Chivas finds itself in unfamiliar territory: the "other" team from LA is sitting pretty in second place in the Western Conference with one foot in the playoffs and just three games to go in the regular season. Saturday's 1-0 win over Colorado was enough to catapult the team to its highest position since April after each of its competitors in the tightly contested Western Conference dropped points. Chivas is now just one win away from the playoffs, a far cry from the team that managed just four wins from 32 games in its inaugural season 12 months ago. Strangely, notes the LA Times, there were no locker room celebrations after the team learned all of the other results in the league had gone their way. "We have our eye on the prize right now," said midfielder Brad Guzan. "We know it's a ways away, there still are a few more games. They're going to be tough games. Once you get in the playoffs, then anything can happen." Read the original story...
