MLS Update: Brown out
Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Adin Brown is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Friday, June 30. Brown will undergo the procedure to "clean up" the right meniscus, and is expected to be out approximately 14-21 days, according to Rapids trainer Jay Mellette.
Brown, also expected to be the starting goalkeeper for the U.S. Olympic team at the 2000 Games in Sydney, is expected to miss four league games, beginning this Saturday in D.C. (1:00 p.m. MT, TV: ESPN). David Kramer will assume the starting position, and the Rapids will use A-League call-ups to fill the reserve goalkeeper role.
"It's one more obstacle in an already injury-laden season," said Rapids coach Glenn "Mooch" Myernick. "But we have full confidence in David Kramer, and our concern is for Adin to make a speedy recovery to once again challenge for the starting spot with us, and be ready for selection to the Olympic team."
The surgery, the second time Brown has had the exact same procedure on the right knee (but first since joining Colorado), is as a result of "wear and tear," according to Mellette. Mellette said that there is no tear in the knee. Colorado team physician Dr. Wayne Gersoff will perform the procedure at Rose Medical Center in Denver.
Rapids activate Hart from IR
Colorado today activated rookie forward Wes Hart from the injured reserve list for the first time this season. Hart, a Colorado native who starred at Columbine High School, has been sidelined the entire season with tendinitis in his right knee. He was placed on injured reserve prior to the start of the 2000 regular season. The Rapids selected Hart from the University of Washington in the first round of the 2000 MLS SuperDraft.
