Several veterans, including New York Red Bull Tony Meola and MLS's
all-time leading scorer Jason Kreis on Salt Lake, have been left
unprotected by for tomorrow's expansion draft in which 2007 newcomer
Toronto may pick 10 players. Each MLS team was allowed to protect 11 players on
its current 28-man roster.
Among the unprotected veterans are: Chicago's Diego Gutierrez, Tony
Sanneh and Zach Thornton; Colorado's Jovan Kirosvki and
Clint Mathis; D.C. United's Nick Rimando; FC Dallas' Simo Valakari
and Greg Vanney; New England's Joe Franchino, Daniel Hernandez
and Avery John; New York's Edson Buddle and Meola; Real Salt
Lake's Kreis.
