U.S. Soccer: National Team's French Training Sites Set
The United States will arrive in France June 5 to begin final preparations for the '98 World Cup.
The American team will stay at the chateau de Pizay, in the Beaujolais section of Rhone-Alpes region of France, before leaving for Paris June 13. Its opener is June 15 against Germany at the Parc des Princes. The U.S. returns to the chateau de Pizay, located 25 miles outside Lyons in the town of Belleville, following the Germany game to prepare for the Iran game June 21 in Lyons. The Rhone-Alpes region -- home of former French soccer federation president Jean Fournet-Fayard -- conducted a successful lobbying campaign to convince many federations to set up camp in the area and take advantage of its central location. The U.S. team will move to Pornic, located on the Atlantic coast 25 miles west of Nantes, after the Iran game to prepare for the Yugoslavia game June 25 at the Beaujoire.
