MLS: Marquinho dropped by Colorado
Colorado Rapids has released Brazilian midfielder Marquinho at the player's request to return to his native Brazil.
Marquinho, who was allocated to the Rapids before the start of the 1998 season, cited family issues as the reason for his desire to return to South America.
Marquinho had recorded three goals and three assists for the Rapids in 11 games, but recently had been coming off the bench as a substitute.
General manager Dan Counce said the departure of Marquinho was due to circumstances beyond the team's control: "Losing a player of his caliber is very disappointing, but when you bring a player into a new country for the first time there are risks that come with it."
