Janice Keating, a Modesto (Calif.) city councilwoman, was ejected from her
daughter's U-14 game for using foul language while questioning the referee's
decisions.
"I'm a normal parent at a game," Keating told the
Modesto Bee.
"Was that embarrassing? Yes, it was. Do I regret that? Absolutely."
The 24-year-old referee, Amanda Grover, who did not know Keating was a
council member until she was told after the game, said, "[Keating] wasn't a very good
example to our community" while Modesto Youth Soccer Association President
Don Scott said Keating's behavior "probably was not extraordinary" and that
she is not likely to be suspended.
"Anyone who knows me knows how much I love soccer," Keating said. "Ever since I
started playing when I was 12. I yell at the kids, I yell at the refs, I jump up
and down with the parents. People do get pretty emotional. I do it all."
