Ahmet Ertegun, who along with his brother Nesuhi, was inducted
into the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame in 2003, died on Thursday at age 83.
The Erteguns founded the New York Cosmos, the USA's most famous soccer club,
which, by bringing Pele and Franz Beckenbauer to the NASL popularized the sport
in America. Ahmet was vice president of the Cosmos from 1971 to 1977 and
president from 1978 to 1983.
Nesuhi died in 1989.
