Real Salt Lake has some money to play with, having gained about $70,000 in cap space by swapping Jeff Cunningham and Alecko Eskandarian, and earning $250,000 for the allocation received upon the retirement of now-coach Jason Kreis.

However, RSL is also still on the hook for a big chunk of Clint Mathis' salary to the tune of about $150,000, according to a source. Colorado received salary-cap relief last year with Mathis on the roster and the provision remains in force for his current employer, Red Bull New York.

Toronto is also not as rich as some might think, or wish to believe. It's paying a good piece of Conor Casey's salary after trading him to Colorado, and according to a source with another club, has used up most of its cap space and just about all the money from its three allocations.
