Two Cuban Gold Cup players are missing

It was not a good Gold Cup for Cuba.

After Cuba was unceremoniously dumped from the tournament with a 5-0 loss to Honduras in Houston on Wednesday night, it was revealed that two players, veteran striker Lester More and Osvaldo Alonso, may have tried to defect.

More disappeared before the Cubans' game against Panama last Sunday at Giants Stadium. Alonso did not return from a shopping trip before the Honduras game in Houston.

Twice previously the Gold Cup was rocked by the defection of Cuba players.

Rey Angel Martinez and Alberto Delgado defected in 2002, and Chivas USA forward Maykel Galindo defected during the 2005 Gold Cup in Seattle.
