Mariner is a former England international who's unlikely to break up his partnership with Steve Nicol. Hamlett, a native of Costa Rica, speaks the language and after serving 10 years as an assistant deserves a chance, but he's not at the top of the list.
Osorio has been an assistant coach at Manchester City and the MetroStars. A native of Colombia, he has been coaching Millonarios the past two years. He was interviewed for vacant head coaching positions with the MetroStars and D.C. United that eventually went to Bob Bradley and Peter Nowak, respectively. Osorio spent five years at Man City before leaving in 2006 to coach Millonarios, and players such as Claudio Reyna - who was at City during the reign of then-head coach Kevin Keegan -- has spoken highly of Osorio's knowledge.
Klopas is enormously popular in Chicago, to which he moved from his native Greece as a youngster. He played for the Fire in two of his four MLS seasons and coached the indoor Chicago Storm. At the Gold Cup final Sunday he politely declined to discuss the coaching vacancy.
Former MLS all-star midfielder Peter Nowak is a legend in Chicago but one of his main reasons for leaving D.C. and joining Bradley with the national team staff was to coach international soccer, as well as limit his travel and spend more time at his home in Florida. Can't do that in the Windy City.
