Nicholas Addlery took the most of his break when he entered D.C. United's game against Colorado Thursday night in the 10th minute after starter Guy-Roland Kpene was injured. The Jamaican-born Addlery scored his first MLS goal and set up Brazilian Fred's first MLS goal in a 4-1 win.
Addlery's rout from his home in the Bronx to MLS's D.C. United included stints at the California University of Pennsylvania, the Trinidad & Tobago pro league and Dong Nai FC of the Vietnamese First Division. He joined United three weeks into this season after the USL-1 Virginia Beach Mariners folded.
"Corner kick came in and I headed it -- it was simple," said Addlery, who had played only 37 minutes in seven previous games for United. "It was no razzle-dazzle, Harry Potter magic. As long as you get lucky."
