Venezuela, Uruguay and Peru joined Mexico, Argentina and Paraguay in the quarterfinals of the Copa America when they finished 1-2-3 in Group A.

Venezuela clinched the Group A title and a place in the quarterfinals -- for the first time in Copa America history -- when it held Uruguay to a 0-0 tie Tuesday in the final group match.

Venezuela was first with five points, followed by Peru and Uruguay on four apiece. Peru took second on the tiebreaker, while Uruguay is certain to qualify as one of the two best third-place teams from the three groups.

The results left the USA needing for Mexico to beat Chile or Ecuador to beat Brazil on Wednesday to have any hope of advancing to the final eight with a win over Colombia in its Group C finale on Thursday.

Striker Claudio Pizarro's second goal of the game with five minutes remaining gave 10-man Peru a 2-2 tie with Bolivia in the first game.

D.C. United forward Jaime Moreno scored his second goal of the tournament with a lob over Peru keeper Leao Butron to put Bolivia ahead in the 24th minute. Pizarro equalized with the first of his two headers 10 minutes later, but Bolivia went ahead a second time on a goal by Jhasmany Campos assisted by former MLS player Joselito Vaca.

Bolivia would have taken third place and advanced to the final eight for the first time in a decade if it had held on for the win.
