Brilliant Rossi Nets Rare Victory for Parma

American teenager Giuseppe Rossi made a storming debut for Parma, the struggling Serie A club Manchester United loaned him to late last week, on Sunday, bagging the game's only goal after a fantastic solo run and finish. Rossi has been brought back to the club he initially signed with as a boy in an attempt to save the fallen Italian giant from relegation.

With 15 minutes to play, Rossi picked up the ball on the edge of the area, pushed the ball back into space on his left side, faked a shot, then took another touch between two players before firing an unstoppable left foot strike past the Torino goalkeeper, who managed to just get a hand on it.

It was only Parma's third win of the season, but the three points lifted the beleaguered team into 17th in the Italian First Division, just a point outside of the safety zone. The club's last win was against Atalanta on October 29. Before netting the game-winner, Rossi was at the center of most of Parma's offensive thrusts. He wasted one good chance in the first half and then forced an acrobatic save from Massimo Taibi-himself a former Manchester United player-after 47 minutes. Rossi's brilliant performance will no doubt please United manager Sir Alex Ferguson who was frustrated by the way he was under-utilized wile on-loan at Newcastle during the first half of the season. The American forward is likely to be one of the driving offensive forces for Parma's battle against relegation. Read the original story...
