Carlo Acquista, who compiled an 18-57-10 record in five seasons at St. Francis (N.Y.), has been named the new Adelphi men's head coach, replacing Bob Montgomery, who resigned his position after 29 years as head coach to head up MLS club New York Red Bulls' youth program.

Acquista, who played on St. John's 1996 national championship team, was an assistant at St. John's and Hofstra before taking over at St. Francis.

Montgomery coached Adelphi for 29 seasons, posting a 258-224-39 record and taking seven of his teams to the NCAA tournament. His 1987 squad made it all the way to the quarterfinals.

In 2006, Montgomery led the Panthers to their first Atlantic Soccer Conference regular-season and tournament titles. Montgomery has also served as an Associate Athletic Director since 1989, where he was responsible for compliance and eligibility.
