Tulsa stunned a crowd of 4,023 at Morrison Stadium Saturday night when it scored three second-half goals to beat the previously unbeaten Bluejays, 3-1.
Creighton was cruising for the first hour before the Golden Hurricanes found holes in the Bluejay defense, winning on a pair of goals by Todd Goddard and one by Eric Burkholder.
"I am very proud of these guys," Tulsa coach Tom McIntosh said. "We stayed focused, stayed in control of ourselves and stuck to the game plan. We knew going in that we could cause problems for Creighton and create scoring opportunities if we were diligent. There were a lot of things going against us, but we persevered and fought through it for the win."
The three goals All-American candidate Matt Allen gave up marked the first time in the five-year history of Morrison Stadium that the Bluejays gave up as many as three goals.
"I was really unhappy with our performance in the back tonight," said Creighton coach Bob Warming. "That's been such a strength of ours up until tonight."
Warming was critical of Tulsa's 29 fouls (to go along with five yellow cards), saying "it's a tactical decision to take away from the game and it has absolutely no place in college soccer."
