David Beckham's first MLS season appears to be over, and Los Angeles Galaxy president Alexi Lalas hopes to avoid the problems that arose in Year 1 -- most notably issues surrounding Becks' fitness.

"Just because David says he is healthy, that does not mean he is healthy," Lalas told Yahoo! Sports. "When we see he is able to train for an extended period of time and are confident he is 100 percent physically and mentally – at that time we will see him on the field and not before."
 
Lalas says the Galaxy is "certainly going to make sure that for his benefit and for the team's benefit we take this one as slowly as possible." How slowly Becks returns could be put to the test sooner rather than later. The 32-year-old Beckham is working out at the Home Depot Center, and there are England Euro '08 qualifiers in October and November, and there's a Galaxy tour of Oceania in November.
