The Fire's U-18s exploded for seven goals in second half to finish with an 8-1 victory in the second game of the series between the two clubs.
Despite the results, Birmingham United coach Eric Dade, the former indoor star, was nothing but positive about the experience.
"We were very excited to be part of the historic day," said Dade. "While we would have liked better results, it was still a great day for the club and the city of Birmingham. We are proud to be a part of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Nothing but good things are going to come from it."
U.S. Soccer hosts the first Academy Fall Showcase Oct. 6-8 at the National Training Center in Carson, Calif. Thirty-six teams from 18 elite clubs will join two U.S. youth national teams in the three-day event.
The premier match takes place Saturday evening when the U.S. youth national team takes on the Chivas USA U-18 academy team on the Mooch Myernick Field at The Home Depot Center.
