[WEDNESDAY UPDATE] Two of the Midwest's hottest teams, Northwestern and Akron, lost in overtime.

No. 17 Northwestern was 89 seconds away from escaping from Northern Illinois with a victory Wednesday afternoon, but Marcus McCarty had other ideas.

McCarty netted the tying goal and then tallied the game-winner in the second overtime to give the Huskies a 2-1 win over the Wildcats.

Northwestern, who fell to 9-3-2, had led on Matt Witt's goal in the 63rd minute.

No. 22 Akron's 10-game unbeaten streak was snapped when it fell 1-0 to Michigan in double overtime.

Michigan's Jake Stacy scored 44 seconds into the second overtime to end the Zips' streak of six consecutive shutouts end.

Akron fell to 10-3-2 overall, while Michigan improved to 10-4-2.
