Four top South Korean players were banned from the national team for a year by the Korean federation for drinking into the early hours at Jakarta brothel the day after a 2-1 Asian Cup loss to Bahrain in July. One of the players, captain Lee Woon-jae was removed from the Asian Player of the Year shortlist because of the incident.

Lee Dong-guk, Kim Sang-sik and Woo Sung-yong were the other players banned. The will not be selected for for FIFA-organized tournaments, including upcoming World Cup qualifiers, and will serve longer suspensions from international friendlies and the country's domestic cup competition.

Lee Woon-jae, a goalkeeper, must also serve 80 hours community service while the other three must perform 40 hours of service. They will be allowed to play for their clubs.

In a tearful apology before the decision, Lee Woon-jae said he would "accept any punishment that comes my way."
