Old foes will meet again in Europe's World Cup 2010 qualifying campaign. England must face Croatia, which knocked it out of Euro 2008 last Wednesday, in Group 6.

Scandinavian rivals Sweden and Denmark, involved in a match in Copenhagen in June that was abandoned when a Danish fan came on the field and attacked the referee, will meet in Group 1, where Portugal will be favored.

In Group 7, World Cup 2006 runner-up France must face Romania, which won its Euro '08 qualifying group, and Serbia, which almost qualified for Euro '08. The presence of Euro '08 co-host Austria gives Group 7 three Euro '08 finalists.

Italy (Group 8) and the Netherlands (Group 9) head the only groups with one Euro '08 finalist.

FORMAT:

GROUP STAGE: The 53 entrants were divided into eight groups of six and one group of five. The nine group winners qualify for the finals. The eight best runners-up (based on results involving the top five teams in each group) advance to playoffs.
