As Section 2 went to press, the first 10 picks in the MLS SuperDraft had been revealed. UCLA defender Chance Myers, 20, went No. 1, chosen by the Kansas City Wizards. FC Dallas went next, choosing 17-year-old Brek Shea, whose official affiliation is with the U.S. U17 national team. UCLA defensive midfielder Anthony Beltran, 20, went to Real Salt Lake, followed by Cal State Northridge defender Sean Franklin, 22, who went to the L.A. Galaxy. UCSB midfielder Ciaran O'Brien, 20, was the fifth pick, drafted by Colorado.

Rounding out the top 10 were defender Andy Iro (UCSB) to Columbus, forward Patrick Nyarko (Virginia Tech) to Chicago, goalkeeper Josh Lambo (U17 national team) to FC Dallas, defender Julius James (UConn) to Toronto, and midfielder Pat Phelan (Wake Forest) to Toronto.
