Former Newcastle defender Celestine Babayaro is on the verge of making a switch to the Los Angeles Galaxy, according to various reports. The 29-year-old former Nigeria international has been without a club for over a month after agreeing to leave the Magpies by mutual consent. Babayaro spent three years at Newcastle but failed to establish himself in the first team due to recurring injuries.

A former Chelsea fullback, Babayaro was actually signed in 1997 by L.A. Galaxy coach Ruud Gullit when the Dutchman was in charge at Stamford Bridge. Both parties have reportedly agreed to the deal, so Babayaro should soon be on his way to link up with former Premiership players David Beckham and Abel Xavier.
