McClaren: MLS Puts Beckham's England Career in Jeopardy

Steve McClaren thinks David Beckham's England career will be over after he earns his 100th cap against Switzerland on Feb. 6. The former England manager believes the standard of play in Major League Soccer isn't good enough for him to continue at international level. Beckham is currently training with Premier League leader Arsenal ahead of England's first game under new coach Fabio Capello.

"David has gone from Real Madrid to a club in America where the sport is still at its beginnings," McClaren said. "The MLS is developing but it's not of the standard required for international football. I know David will keep himself fit, but it's going to be very difficult for him to continue playing for England."

Beckham, of course, shocked the world when he announced a year ago he would leave Real Madrid for the Los Angeles Galaxy, "a move that both leaves him thousands of miles away from Europe and in a football league of inferior quality to England or Spain," according to Goal.com.
