California has signed Australian national team defender Clare Polkinghorne, who played for the Matildas at the 2007 Women's World Cup, where they reached the quarterfinals.

Polkinghorne has earned 12 caps for Australia's senior national team and played in the 2006 Under-20 Women's World Cup in Russia.

She is the second international player to sign with the Bears for the fall, joining Iceland national team midfielder Katrin Omarsdottir (9 caps).

Cal has also signed nine Californians, including U.S. U-18 national team defender Danielle Brunache.
