[CYPRUS CUP] The U.S. under-20 women's national team finished second at the Cyprus Cup, losing to Canada's senior national team, 3-2, in Wednesday's final.

Canada went ahead, 3-0, after only 38 minutes. Star Christine Sinclair scored two goals to give her 87 in her international career and 17-year-old Jonelle Filigno, who is headed to Rutgers in the fall, added the third goal. The University of Miami's Brittney Steinbruch, a second-half substitute, scored two late goals for the USA.

The Americans had advanced to the final with wins over the national teams of Scotland (2-1) and the Netherlands (2-1). Stanford's Kelley O'Hara and Portland's Michelle Enyeart both scored in each game. They also fell to Russia's national team, 2-0, in a game that didn't count in the group play standings.

"Canada came out and took it to us early and often," said U.S. U-20 coach Tony DiCicco. "I was disappointed by our first half mentality and some of our defensive marking. We spoke at halftime and committed to competing at a higher level and playing our style of soccer. I was delighted with the second half and the obvious improvement."

DiCicco's U-20s are currently in preparations for qualifying for the 2008 Under-20 Women's World Cup to be held in Chile Nov. 19-Dec. 7.
