Cuba moves to closer to U.S. showdown

[WORLD CUP 2010 QUALIFYING] In a battle of potential U.S. opponents in the semifinal round of Concacaf qualifying for the 2010 World Cup, Cuba won, 4-3, at Antigua & Barbuda on Tuesday night in the first leg of their second-round series.

Leonel Pla broke the 3-3 tie with a goal in the 85th minute for Cuba. Jaine Valencia scored twice, and Yoel Colome also scored for the Cubans.

Kerry Skepple led Antigua & Barbuda with two goals. Tylo Simon scored the third goal in the 81st minute.

The USA, an 8-0 winner over Barbados, and Guatemala, which takes a 6-0 lead into its second leg against St. Lucia in Los Angeles, will be joined by the Cuba-Antigua & Barbuda and the winner of the Bermuda-Trinidad & Tobago series. Bermuda upset T&T, 2-1, in the first leg of their series.
