Guiza reunites with Aragones at Fenerbahce

[TRANSFER TALK] Spanish forward Daniel Guiza has joined Turkish club Fenerbahce in a move that reunites him with Coach Luis Aragones, who guided Spain to its Euro 2008 victory. Fenerbahce has not disclosed the transfer fee but Spanish press estimated the move to be worth $27 million.

The 27-year-old Guiza moves to the Istanbul side after having one of the most prolific seasons in all of Europe. In 37 games for Real Mallorca, Guiza scored 27 goals. His output left him in second place in the Golden Shoe standings, behind Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo, and helped Real Mallorca to seventh place in La Liga, the team's best finish in eight years. His form also attracted interest from a number of clubs, including Barcelona and Arsenal.

Although Aragones only used Guiza as a substitute during Spain's Euro 2008 campaign, he made it a priority to make the forward his first signing since taking over at the club from Brazilian Zico.

Guiza's move to Turkey is part of a growing trend of Spanish players who are moving abroad to play club soccer. Of the 23-man roster at this past European Championships, six play for a foreign team. English club Liverpool takes the lion's share of this number with four Spanish national team members on its squad.

This number may soon be growing as a host of Spanish players are rumored to be moving from the Iberian Peninsula. David Villa, David Silva, Ruben de la Red and Sergio Ramos have all been the subject of such rumors.
