Britain does not take part in the Olympic soccer competition because here is no such thing as the British FA. England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland -- the four nations -- all have their own national teams, but Lord Coe -- Sebastian Coe to all you track & field fans -- would like Sir Alex Ferguson to lead a British XI at the 2012 London Games.
"I would love to have him involved because he is a phenomenal coach, a great man-manager and who you would want to have that mentoring role with under-23 players from across the country for the buildup to a game," said Coe, the vice-chairman of the London organizing committee "We've had a few conversations but I do stress that it is for the FA and BOA [British Olympic Association] to make that judgment."
The idea of a British team is dependent on FIFA guaranteeing the continued independence of the home FAs.
