[YOUTH] The USA won Group A of the CONCACAF Under-17 Girls Championship with a 9-1 win against Trinidad & Tobago Tuesday night at Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya, Trinidad.

Forward Courtney Verloo led the Americans with a hat trick, while Kristen Mewis added two goals and Victoria DiMartino, Samantha Johnson and Alexis Harris each added one. Midfielder Erika Tymrak had out four assists.

Trinidad & Tobago, coached Notre Dame University women's coach Randy Waldrum, featured nine U.S.-born players in its squad, including high school freshman phenom Jessica DeLeon, the daughter of Leroy DeLeon, the former Trinidad & Tobago and NASL star.

The USA will face Mexico in a semifinal matchup that will take place at 7:30 p.m. ET on Thursday at Marvin Lee Stadium in Trinidad. In the other semifinal clash, Canada will face Costa Rica. The two semifinal winners will automatically qualify for the 2008 Under-17 Girls World Cup, to be held from Oct. 28-Nov. 16 in New Zealand. The third-place team from CONCACAF will also qualify.
