FC Dallas midfielder Dax McCarty has been named the the U.S. Olympic men's team, replacing the injured Nathan Sturgis. The 21-year old McCarty, a starter on the team that beat Canada, 3-0, to qualify for the Olympics, was himself injured this spring and was first selected as an alternate on the Olympic team, which will travel to Hong Kong on Friday for the ING Cup

"I've always thought that the Olympics were one of the biggest sporting events in the world, and like many kids, I dreamt of one day playing in such a tournament," said McCarty. "It's obviously not the ideal way to be called up. You never wish injury upon anyone."

McCarty says he has gotten over the shock news. "It's an honor," he said, "and I was speechless when I found out. I just want to help the team out anyway possible and hopefully help us win a medal."
