Scoring comes naturally to Foxhoven

[PLAYER OF THE WEEK]
Scoring goals has come naturally to Danielle Foxhoven since she was a three-year-old playing 4-on-4 soccer.

Foxhoven's scoring prowess led the Colorado Rush Nike to the U-18 girls title at the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships, and she should continue to terrorize defenses when she enrolls at the University of Portland in the fall.

Foxhoven was the leading scorer at the National Championships with six goals, including two in the under-18 girls final to lead the Colorado Nike Rush to a 3-0 win over Sting Dallas.

Foxhoven had a hat trick in the Rush's 4-4 tie with the Eclipse Select in group play and came within inches of recording a second hat trick against Sting Dallas in Sunday's final.

"She is one of the best players in our country, period," Rush coach Erik Bushley told the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. "What makes her good is not just her attitude and not just her technique, but her determination in big games. She scored in every final we played in this year."

Foxhoven was named All-Colorado Player of the Year by both the Rocky Mountain News and Denver Post in 2007 in leading Mullen High School its first-ever 5A state crown but concentrated on her play with the Rush in 2008

In recent years, Foxhoven has honed her skills playing soccer tennis with her younger brother, Zach, a high school sophomore who scored two goals for the Rush in its fourth-place finish in the U-17/18 group at the recent U.S. Soccer Development Academy Finals Week.

"Danielle is a goal scorer," Portland coach Garrett Smith said. "She has played with our youth national teams and scored at every level and we expect more of the same when she gets to Portland."
