Former Grimsby Town striker John Thorrington scored the game winner for Chicago in L.A. Thursday, stretching the Galaxy's winless streak to nine. New L.A. coach Bruce Arena credited Thorrington with "a very good finish," and said he was pleased with the effort he saw his players put in.
"We were a little bit thin tonight with the loss of some players, not that that's an excuse because Chicago was missing some pretty good players as well," said Arena. "But the thing that I'm pleased about with the guys is that they hung in there and fought for 90 minutes.
"Overall tonight the effort was good, the organization of the team was certainly improved but not good enough. We're missing a few players at the attacking end of the field." Arena was "not certain yet" when new signing Eddie Lewis would be ready to play for the team, which was also missing Landon Donovan and David Beckham because of international call-ups.
