March 16th, 2007 6:36PM

College soccer is coming to Brownsville, Texas, the southernmost city in Texas, located on the Mexican border.

The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College is launching varsity men's and women's soccer programs that will play their first seasons in 2007. UTB-TSC has announced the hiring of men's coach Dan Balaguero and women's coach Nik Barjaktarevic.

Balaguero spent the last season as an assistant at Division I Maine. He was for four seasons the head coach at NAIA power Virginia Intermont and for three years the head coach JC school Champlain, where he was an All-American.

Barjaktarevic came from his native Serbia to play at Tennessee NAIA school Union and was the head women's coach at NAIA school Dana in Nebraska since 2004.

UTB-TSC has a limited athletic program with varsity sports for baseball, golf and volleyball.
