Schulz Academy, which finished third in the 2007-08 U.S. Soccer Academy's U-16 Age Group, opened the 2008-09 season with a 2-0 win over Birmingham United and 0-0 tie with Atlanta Fire United.

Felipe Noguerol and Daniel Henderson scored in the win over Birmingham.

"For the first game, I was happy with the performance of the players," said Dr. Josef Schulz, "but I expect everybody on a higher level in a few weeks."

Miami FC Kendall's U-18 team was the only team to win both games in the Southeast Division. The only visiting team to win was Atlanta Fire United's U-18 team, a 3-1 winner over Schulz Academy.
