Manchester City manager Mark Hughes has responded to Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster's claim that Brazilian striker Robinho is content to be "a big player at a mediocre club" by having made the $58 million move from Real to City.
"Bernd is obviously a bit emotional about the situation," Hughes said. "He has lost one of his best players and I know for a fact he didn't want him to go. I tried to get through to him several times [on transfer deadline day] but couldn't. He obviously knew what I was going to ask."
"Nobody goes to Real Madrid and takes their best players without them being able to do anything," Hughes said. "Straightaway, it's a statement of intent. It's not our aim to be a mid-table club for a couple of years. Robinho has come to a team he feels is going places. Maybe, in a few years, Bernd will change his view."
