"Our confidence may have been too high going into [Thursday's] game," Beckham was quoted as saying by the Chicago Tribune after the Galaxy's 3-1 defeat at the Chicago Fire Thursday. "We need to pick ourselves up because we're running out of games."
The Galaxy (7-11-8) is in sixth position of the seven-team Western Conference. "We just need to start winning games," the English midfielder sagely observed, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "We played well in certain parts, but when you make mistakes in spells, good players capitalize on that."
Fire coach Denis Hamlett recognized the role played by those good players. "When you put Brian McBride, Cuauhtémoc [Blanco], Justin Mapp and Chris Rolfe out there, we're a tough team to beat," Hamlett said. "And tonight, we showed that."
