[WOMEN'S WORLD CUP] The 2011 Women's World Cup in Germany will be played June 26-July 17 -- which represents a switch from the last two women's world championships, which were played in the fall.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel was on hand for this week's announcement of the venue cities.

Germany 2011 will be played in nine cities -- Berlin, Frankfurt, Dresden, Augsburg, Wolfsburg, Sinsheim, Leverkusen, Bochum and Moenchengladbach.

Berlin will host the opener, and Frankfurt will hold the final.

The host cities have agreed to promote the tournament, provide a "fan mile," among other things.
