[MLS] D.C. United's desperate quest to reach the playoffs will see it play two of its final four games without the player that has produced the most goals. The MLS Disciplinary Committee has doubled the fine and suspension incurred by Jamie Moreno for his elbow to the face of Dallas midfielder Andre Rocha during their match at Pizza Hut Park last Sunday. Moreno is second on the team in goals with 10 and leads United with nine assists.

Moreno has been suspended an additional game and fined an extra $250 for clubbing Rocha with his arm in the 84th minute of the match won by FC Dallas, 3-0. Referee Ricardo Salazar issued him a straight red card, which carries an automatic $250 fine and one-game suspension. Under MLS rules, the disciplinary committee is empowered to impose additional penalties upon review of such incidents.

Moreno will sit out United's next two league matches. D.C. hosts Chivas USA Saturday and plays at Houston Oct. 12. The suspension does not affect his status for the Concacaf Champions' League.

The loss to Dallas could also cost United if the teams finish tied on points; coupled with a 2-2 tie three weeks ago, the 3-0 win gives Dallas the first tiebreaker, which is head-to-head results.

Heading into this week's games, FC Dallas and United are tied with 33 points, one point and one place out of the eight playoff slots. FCD hosts San Jose Thursday night.
