Day 1 Wrapup/by Paul Kennedy
The YOUTH SOCCER REPORTER begins daily coverage of the Disney's Soccer Showcase presented by Chelsea Football Club.

Day 1 of the boys competition featured high-scoring action in the under-17 Showcase division. Chelsea's 4-2 win over D.C. United was just one of several wild-open games. The Blues opened up a four-goal lead before Maryland-bound Paul Torres scored two goals, the second after a run through three Chelsea defenders.

All eight games featured a minimum of three goals.

The surprises included Kentucky's United FC International's 1-1 tie with Texas powerhouse Andromeda in the U-19 Showcase division, and Lonestar SC Red's 1-1 draw with the NJSA 04 Gunners, the defending U.S. Youth Soccer age group champions, in the U-15 Showcase division.

Play continues in the boys divisions through Dec. 30. Girls play will take place Dec. 31-Jan. 3. Follow all the action with the YOUTH SOCCER REPORTER each morning through Jan. 4.
