While AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani spent the last couple days suggesting that the team and MLS were getting closer and closer to keeping David Beckham bound in Italy, AEG chief executive Tim Leiweke was quietly left wondering how this could be the case when the two sides hadn't spoken in some two weeks' time.

The inaccuracy of what was being reported and rumored around the web sparked Leiweke to speak out to Italian newspaper Gazetta Dello Sport and clarify that a transfer agreement was, in fact, "not close." According to Leiweke, after Milan made their "ridiculous" initial offer of $3 million, to which he "replied 'no' in a few seconds," there hasn't been any progress at all in communications, much less negotiations. "No one has made any moves. There are no meetings arranged," said the AEG boss.

Leiweke also took the opportunity to remind Milan officials of the negative ramifications of Beckham not remaining with the Galaxy and the league, divulging that without the England star there are "fans that are renouncing subscriptions, sponsors that want damages and rival teams that have the right to know if the Galaxy will play at their stadium with or without Beckham."

According to other sources, AEG and AC Milan are expected to meet in L.A. on Tuesday, when Leiweke is hoping he receives what he calls "a real offer." Read the original story...
