Hull City: America's Underdog in England?
ESPN The Magazine/ESPN.com, February 20th, 2009 3:45PM

ESPN The Magazine writer Jeff Bradley makes a strong case for EPL underdog Hull City as America's Team away from America, highlighting loyal but "long-suffering" fans that despite dismal results continue to simply celebrate that the team's "fairy tale journey" has led them to their first Premier League season since being founded in 1902.

"Not long ago, they were scraping a bottom that's nearly 100 teams deep," writes Bradley. Decrying the "Just win, baby" ethos of much of American sports, he puts Hull City hopes in perspective by adding "Second place is for losers? Ha. Seventeenth place would be cause for a massive celebration."

In the extremely in-depth article, Bradley goes on to tell the town's tale, refuting its reputation across England as a "hard luck" place known "for things like rampant obesity, teen pregnancy and drugs" while chronicling the team's meteoric rise from the Third Division and the city's renewed spirit.
