After three years at Chivas USA and a total of 21 years as a professional, legendary Mexican international Claudio "El Emperador" Suarez confirmed speculation in the offseason that he would retire, but said he's "satisfied because I know that I always gave everything I had on the field."
The 40-year-old defender made his debut in 1989 for Pumas, before going on to a successful stint at Chivas Guadalajara in 1996. Suarez, a three-time World Cup veteran (1994, 1998, 2006), is Mexico's most capped player with 178 caps, an incredible mark that leaves him just second in the world on the all-time list behind Saudi Arabian goalkeeper Mohamed Al-Deayea.
"Claudio's a world-class player. It's tough to lose someone like that," said teammate Sasha Kljestan. "Chivas USA has a lot of Mexican tradition, so that makes losing a big-name Mexican player like Claudio even tougher."
