The idea that Mexican power Club America "unraveled" upon the departure of Cuauhtemoc Blanco to that other America following a loss in the final to close out the 2007 Clausura season "is no coincidence," according to goal.com's Andrea Martinez.
The team has been in a "downwards spiral since the Apertura 2008," writes Martinez, who maintains that in letting Blanco go to the Chicago Fire, "the main man of the team and the fans' idol took the fighting spirit of America" with him.
Despite a trio of coaching changes and numerous new players being brought into the mix, Club America continues to struggle without its "inspiration" and "their sorry state is not good for the Mexican league or the Mexican national team."
