[WPS NOTEBOOK] It's only 16 days until the Women's Professional Soccer opener, and clubs are busy at work in preseason camps, beginning the cuts to get their rosters down to 22 players (including four developmental players).

BOSTON. The Breakers opened preseason play with wins over the University of Connecticut (2-0) and Boston College (6-1) in scrimmages. U.S. national team star Kristine Lilly had goals in both games. Boston opens training in Florida on Friday.

CHICAGO. The Red Stars are spending eight days in Sunrise, Fla., after training indoors in Chicago. They beat Northwestern University, 2-0, and tied Purdue University, 0-0, in a pair of 50-minute games played indoors. Former Santa Clara star Tina Estrada scored both goals.

FC GOLD PRIDE. Former U.S. national team star Tiffeny Milbrett scored one goal and had assists on three others -- including one by Brandi Chastain -- in a 6-1 win over the University of California in its first preseason exhibition. The match was played in front of a packed house at the Mustang Soccer Complex in Danville, Calif.

LOS ANGELES. After making preseason cuts, the Sol's 22-player roster includes every U.S. player it was allocated or drafted as well as five players signed from aboard: Marta (Brazil), Aya Miyama (Japan), Han Duan (China), Camille Abily (France) and Johanna Frisk (Sweden). Canadian goalie Karina LeBlanc has been coaching and playing in the United States in recent years. The Sol opened preseason play with a 1-1 tie against USC.

SKY BLUE FC. The New Jersey opened training camp in Greensboro, N.C., where it will spent most of the month of March. Among the eight invitational players brought into came was Mexico national team goalie Sophia Perez.

ST. LOUIS. Anheuser-Busch's decision to donate the Anheuser-Busch Center -- better known as the Soccer Park -- in Fenton, Mo., to St. Louis Soccer United, which owns the Athletica and hopes to acquire an MLS expansion team, means that the Athletica could play home games in as many as three sites in 2009. It previously announced plans to play on the campuses of SIU-Edwardsville and Saint Louis University.

WASHINGTON. The Freedom will play three doubleheaders in conjunction with MLS's D.C. United. The three Freedom games at RFK Stadium will take place on May 23, June 13 and July 18 and be played before D.C. United's matches.
