[OFF THE POST]The German soccer federation [DFB] says it won't punish striker Lukas Podolski for lashing out at captain Michael Ballack during the team's 2-0 World Cup qualifying win against Wales.

Podolski swung at the captain after Ballack barked at him over an issue not revealed by the team manager Oliver Bierhoff, who said "The DFB finds it hard to take disciplinary measures in this situation. There will be no fines or special sanctions."

Germany defenders Per Mertesacker and Philipp Lahm broke up the spat and Bierhoff said the players cleared the air after the game: "They looked deep into each other's eyes and the matter was dealt with."
