Big East rivals Rutgers and St. John's will meet Saturday at Raritan High School in Hazlet, N.J. in the first annual Doug Hamilton Memorial Soccer Classic, honoring Doug Hamilton, the late Los Angeles Galaxy president and an important influence within the world of American soccer who passed away suddenly in March 2006 at the age of 43 from heart complications.
Hamilton was Hazlet native and starred as a soccer player at Raritan High School, the same high school from which Rutgers head coach Bob Reasso also graduated.
Hamilton is survived by his wife, Paige, and their son, Aedan. The proceeds from the Classic will go to benefit Hamilton's six-year-old son as well as the Hazlet Youth Soccer Association (HYSA).
