Two years ago as interim coach, Stephen Hart led Canada to the semifinals of the Gold Cup, where it fell to the USA. In 2009, he'll again be in charge of Canada as interim coach at the Gold Cup.
The Canadian Soccer Association on Friday named Hart, the CSA's technical director, as interim coach through the end of the year. He replaces Dale Mitchell, who was fired last month.
Canada will only have one friendly, in late May against Cyprus, before heading to the Gold Cup, where it will face Jamaica on July 3, El Salvador on July 7 and Costa Rica on July 10 in the first round.
