U.S. national team striker Charlie Davies has been tearing up the Swedish first division this season, but his recent run of goal-scoring form with Hammarby will be put on hold after the league suspended him for five matches for a malicious elbow to the face of Orebro's Michael Almeback that left Almeback with a bloody mouth. Although game officials missed the incident, the league's disciplinary committee used video evidence to determine the ban. Hammarby has not yet appealed the ruling.

Davies, 22, who scored five goals in Hammarby's last six games, has five U.S. caps after debuting in 2007. He scored his first goal for the USA in World Cup qualifying in 2008. Hammarby is in 14th place of the 16-team Swedish league, which plays through the summer. In 2008, Davies scored 14 times in Swedish league play.
